Behan Estate & Trust Litigation is a Vancouver litigation boutique focused on estate and trust disputes and elder law.
We are a busy firm with a sophisticated litigation practice. Our practice includes work at all levels of court. Our files involve complex trust disputes, capacity and undue influence claims, wills variation claims, power of attorney and elder law disputes, and all other estate and trust litigation matters.
Although our firm is relatively new, we have built significant momentum and expect to continue to grow. Our work has received recognition from Best Lawyers and Doyle's Guide, reflecting the quality of the practice.
You can expect a culture that is collegial, professional, and approachable. This role offers the opportunity to remain involved in sophisticated litigation, but with a different atmosphere than many firms.
This is an opportunity for a litigator who wants to work on high-quality and interesting files, develop their skills in estate and trust litigation, and take on meaningful responsibility.
You will work closely with the firm principal, Gordon Behan, and be substantively involved in the files. Depending on your experience, your work will include:
Our mentorship philosophy is straightforward: litigators develop by practicing law, which sometimes means stretching beyond your comfort zone. We want to give you the mentorship to improve your skills and then the opportunities to use those skills. You can expect meaningful opportunities to appear in court and conduct your own examinations reasonably early, commensurate with your experience.
We are looking for a lawyer with 3 – 5 years of litigation experience who is in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
Candidates should have solid general litigation experience, including drafting pleadings and affidavits, preparing court applications, and preparing for examinations for discovery and mediations. Strong knowledge of the Supreme Court Civil Rules is expected.
Base salary: $145,000 – $175,000, depending on year of call and experience.
Our annual billable hours target is 1,400 hours.
Associates are also eligible for a bonus based on billable hours and other contributions to the firm, providing the opportunity for additional compensation beyond base salary.
Four weeks’ vacation and extended health benefits are provided.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Vancouver. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week to start, as court schedules and other file commitments allow.
In November 2026, the firm will move into new offices at 750 West Broadway. The successful candidate will have their own office.
